Binge-watching is a massive part of what we TV today. Not only do you have the opportunity to watch whatever you want, but you have the opportunity to watch whenever you want.
My binge-watching experience (which is a lot) has been very positive as I want to consider getting into the television business after I graduate this year.
The simple way to put it is binge-watching is watching an extreme amount of the same show consistently. Although this is true, binge-watching can be done in many different ways. In my experience, binge-watching is best used when used in moderation. Binge-watching should not be used as a distraction but as an activity that one looks forward to. Because of the industry, I am interested in, binge-watching is very necessary, so I do not believe the negative condemnation towards it. Yes, I do think that it can be toxic when used in the wrong ways, but I do not believe that it is damaging all around.
Binge-watching started on the platform of Netflix, although now it can be noted towards any streaming platform that allows you to watch more than one episode. Nowadays, there is not just one platform where it takes place; there are many, which include HBO MAX, Amazon, Netflix, and many others. I believe the reasoning is obvious, and it is because these streaming platforms bring convenience to the viewers.
Recently I have been binging nostalgic TV shows that have a lot of seasons in which I have never seen before. These shows consist of Grey’s Anatomy and Gossip Girl. I look forward to the time that I set aside for those shows. Everybody always talks about them, and I want to join the conversation of these shows that a lot of people have watching. On top of that, I really do enjoy them.
When I say that I schedule time for my binging, I like to make sure that it doesn’t coincide with other work or actives I have to do. I usually binge after I have done all my work o the weekdays or during the day on the weekends. If it is nice outside, I will do outdoor activities, but, if not I will binge. There was one part of my life where my binging was very unhealthy, and I am glad I figured out how to binge in a healthy manner, considering I want to go into the television business and need to be educated on many different shows.
To wrap this all together, binging, in a sense, is a passion of mine. It has created a space of interest within the industry I would love to work in. There is no doubt in my mind that there are any bad condensations towards the binging that I involve myself in because I believe that it is benefiting me. Aside from the idea that it is helping me prepare for my career, I believe that it is a type of self-care to watch shows that spark my interest and get my attention.
Because I have seen what unhealthy binging looks like, I now know how to correlate my priorities and how to find the time to binge shows that I really enjoy.
I've binged watched so many shows since I got my own laptop, in high school. I definitely feel like binge-watching, as someone who is not pursuing television as a career, has been relaxing, but also unproductive at times, as it is something I've found myself getting addicted to. Of late, I've been binge-watching lesser and lesser, as I've started taking up more responsibilities in my personal and professional life, and have been missing my alone time in front of the TV.
I have been binge watching during the covid periods. That is probably my main entertainment. And when you do so, you are not gonna listent to the opening all the time for sure. We just wanna get the real thing.
